6 like collected so there are no surprises at the end. b. Written Paper: Check for understanding by asking your learners to write out a short-an- swer paper with 3–10 questions. This could be done inside or outside of class, and length of the answers can vary. However, this is not a good option for students who struggle academically. Remember, your goal is to identify what students have learned, not how well they can write a paper, so allow modifications as needed. For example, some students could dictate answers to questions to an adult or into a recording device. Possible questions, based on the unit: • What is the Rite of Confirmation? • Define the Christian faith. • Explain how creeds and confessions help us understand who Jesus is. • What are the basic principles of reading God's Word? • Explain Christian worship. • Identify the Six Chief Parts of the Catechism. InsTruCTIon opTIons This unit is unique in this curriculum in that it is not directly tied to the structure of the Chief Parts. Instead, it is meant to be an intro- duction to the big ideas behind confirmation and the fundamental skills and definitions needed to go forward. As such, compared to some other units, the lessons will be a little more dense in content, which will help you bring your confirmands up to speed if they don't already have a good idea of the Bible or worship. In other words, it's critical that you use your discretion to pick and choose the parts of the lessons you want to spend time on. Remember, at the end of the day, you are aiming for learning. Do your learners better understand the content of the Time- less Truth and the Lesson Focus? How do you know? Keep returning to this. Also, due to more reading in the lesson and less reading from the Small Catechism, sections of this unit may be best suited for working in pairs or small groups for certain sections.
