Activities ENCOURAGE YOUNG ADULTS Isaac blessed his sons; similarly, we can help young adults remember their unique place in God's story. When you encourage a young adult, you are commu- nicating value, reminding him of his God-given worth, and reiterating your nonstop commitment in his life. This could happen over a meal, a cup of coffee, or even as a part of a special evening together. WORK ON A PROJECT Young adults might have a passion for something you don't know much about. Maybe they are into mud runs or Marvel movies. Ask young adults to help you un- derstand their passion, and look for ways you can get involved. CELEBRATE TOGETHER The young adult life stage contains two significant birthdays: eighteen and twenty-one. Mark each birth- day with meaningful reflection and some special touches. Be sure to celebrate these days by including people who are important to the young adult. INTRODUCE A MENTOR Help young adults find caring older adults to speak wisdom into their life. As parents move from deci- sion-makers to coaches in their young adult children's lives, the need for more wise people speaking to them cannot be underestimated. Shelli Haynes serves as the assistant youth and family minister at Red Hill Lutheran Church in Tustin, California. She has been a DCE in Southern California churches for twenty-one years. Shelli holds a BA from Concordia University Irvine and an MA in family ministry from Concordia University, Nebraska. Shelli is wife to Travis and mama to two daughters, Megan and Mandy. She and her family love the beach, backyard badminton, and Giants baseball. About the Author Young Adults • 4 • cph.org • Copyright © 2019 Concordia Publishing House
