Materials for Storytelling Activity: Bible; blue crepe-paper streamers cut in 24-inch lengths; Bible-times costumes; pairs of animal hats or headbands (e.g., two elephant trunks, two cow ear headbands); toy hammers, saws, screwdrivers; a large white dress shirt or robe; a branch; a rainbow painted on a long stretch of paper so it can be held by two children. Leader Costume: Dress as a rainforest researcher. Wear cargo pants, T-shirt, wide-brimmed floppy tan hat, and hiking boots/ shoes. Accessorize with binoculars, backpack, water bottle, and walkie-talkie. Site Decorations: Decorate your Storytelling area as a rainforest. Include Team Spots (tarps), one for each Team; large cross; a wooden stool or bench; and the lesson's props. You will need a cardboard boat today. Getting Ready ■ Read Genesis 6:17–22; 8 and the Leader Devotion (on the Director USB). ■ Read your script. Practice presenting it in character. ■ Gather needed materials. ■ Set Preparations: Tuck rainforest animals around the room in the foliage for today's story. Use stuffed animals, inflatables, or pictures. Use cardboard to make a boat. Spread Team Spots (tarps) around the room near the Storyteller's stool. ■ Place Team Supplies on the Team Spots. ■ Display the Lesson 1 Bible Story Poster. Bible Points to Emphasize Law: Sometimes, we are helpless to see what's next and we can begin to despair because we do not see any hope. Gospel: Jesus can always see the way. He has promised to always be with us, and He always keeps His promises. No matter how grim life looks, Jesus is always leading the way to forgiveness, life, and salvation. Jesus Leads the Way: After the flood, Noah can't see anything but water all around him, but God leads Noah and his family to dry ground. In our lives, when we can't see any way of escape or any reason for hope, Jesus continues to lead the way. He leads us to His gifts of forgiveness and life in His Word and Sacraments.
