7 Law and Gospel Connections Lesson Law and Gospel Jesus Leads the Way: God had led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. He had led them across the Red Sea on dry ground. Now He leads them to Mount Horeb, where He instructs them in how to live as His people, His treasured possession. Jesus Leads the Way: After the flood, Noah can't see anything but water all around him, but God leads Noah and his family to dry ground. In our lives, when we can't see any way of escape or any reason for hope, Jesus continues to lead the way. He leads us to His gifts of forgiveness and life in His Word and Sacraments. 1 2 Law: The people of Israel had no idea how to live as God's people. They were like sheep without a shepherd, lost and wandering. Sometimes, we feel this way as well and we try to live by our own foolish standards or by the foolish standards of the world around us. Gospel: God gives His people direction and instruction by sharing with them how to live as His people in the Ten Commandments. God seeks us out as we wander and puts us back on the path of following Him. Law: Sometimes, we are helpless to see what's next and we can begin to despair because we do not see any hope. Gospel: Jesus can always see the way. He has promised to always be with us, and He always keeps His promises. No matter how grim life looks, Jesus is always leading the way to forgiveness, life, and salvation. Law: We may be reluctant to follow Jesus or feel like we are not good enough to be among His followers. We may even feel as if we are all alone. Gospel: The call to follow Jesus does not depend on how good we are; rather, Jesus invites all people to follow Him. All people can be transformed into God's children because of Jesus' death and resurrection. As we follow His call, Jesus promises to be with us no matter what. Law: We may be sick or injured and in need of healing and mercy. We may feel excluded from our communities, or we may be excluding others. Gospel: Jesus leads the way by showing mercy and offering healing to all people, no matter their circumstances. His death and resurrection is for all. Jesus Leads the Way: Jesus encounters ten people with leprosy, who have been cut off from their communities. Jesus leads the way by showing mercy to them and healing their disease. Law: We sometimes feel helpless to share our faith, so we keep silent rather than share the Good News of Jesus' death and resurrection. Gospel: Jesus sends His Spirit to empower us and sends us forth into the world to share the joyous news of His death and resurrection. Jesus Leads the Way : After His resurrection from the dead, Jesus leads His disciples back to Himself by providing a miraculous catch of fish. He sends the disciples out to share the Good News of His resurrection with all people. Jesus Leads the Way: As Jesus begins His earthly ministry, He calls people to abandon their lives and possessions and follow Him. Jesus leads them and us into the kingdom of God. As the disciples follow, they are never alone. Jesus guides them every day. 3 4 5
