5 Not of the World Not everyone will agree with our Christian faith. What things have you noticed that are sometimes hard to talk about with your non-Christian friends? What Is Apologetics? Consider This Unit 1: What Is Apologetics? God has called me into the important role of defending the faith. I can explain how defending the faith is an important part of sharing life together with others. Have you heard the word apologetics before? What do you think of when you hear this term? The word apologetics sounds like the word apology. When we use the word apology today, it normally has to do with admitting error or regret. But it can also mean "to make a defense." When Christians study apologetics, they are actually referring to defending the faith, not apologizing for it. Make a Defense Read 1 Peter 3:15. We will explore this passage and its context often throughout this course, but for now, write down important words that you notice in it. Think about It . . . Why is it important to defend our faith with gentleness and respect?
